Volkswagen EVs Will Get Tesla Supercharger Access This Summer

VW EVs & Tesla Superchargers: 2025 Update

Hey there, VW electric vehicle fans! Remember all that buzz about Volkswagen EVs finally being able to use Tesla’s awesome Supercharger network? Well, we’ve got some good news – the wait is almost over!

The Supercharger Saga: A Quick Recap

Just to refresh your memory, VW announced that their electric cars would be able to plug into Tesla’s Superchargers starting in March 2025. This was HUGE news because it meant VW drivers would get access to Tesla’s massive and super-fast charging network. But there was a little catch: you’d need a special adapter. And those adapters weren’t supposed to arrive until June or July. Bummer, right?

The Adapter Wait: We’re in the Home Stretch!

Well, guess what? July is just around the corner, which means those much-anticipated NACS adapters are about to hit VW dealerships! This is the key piece of the puzzle that will let your ID.4, or any other compatible VW EV, connect to a Tesla Supercharger.

What Does This Mean for You, the VW Driver?

Once you get your hands on that adapter, you’re in for a treat! Here’s why this is such a big deal:

  • Faster Charging on the Go: Tesla Superchargers are known for their speed, so you’ll be able to juice up your EV much faster than with many other charging options. Perfect for road trips!
  • More Charging Options: With access to Tesla’s extensive network, you’ll have way more places to plug in, especially on those longer journeys. This definitely helps ease any lingering “range anxiety.” Tesla’s “Summon” Feature Under Fire: Safety Concerns Spark Investigation

A Few Things to Keep in Mind Before You Head to a Supercharger:

  • Double-Check with Your Dealer: While July is the expected timeframe, it’s always a good idea to call your local VW dealership and confirm when the adapters will be available.
  • There Might Be a Fee: Tesla might charge VW drivers a small fee for using their Superchargers. We’re still waiting on the official word about pricing, so stay tuned.
  • Other Charging Options Still Exist: Even with Supercharger access, remember you can still use other DC fast chargers and, of course, charge at home with your Level 2 charger.
